Britain’s Canning Industry

Illustrations of the way in which applied laboratory research could develop an industry were given by Dr. 15. Marsden, secretary of the Department, of Scientific and Industrial Research, lu his address at the Y.M.C.A. last evening. Citing the canning industry as “the only industry in Great Britain which hud shown phenomenal and scientific development,” he said that in seven years the number of cases of canned goods produced in Groat Britain had grown from 2,500.000 to 100,060,000. In South Africa, too, where research hail been availed of, the output of canned apricots, peaches. and other fruits had grown since the war from 200,000 eases to 6.000,000 cases a year.
