Italy and Abyssinia.—ltaly is reported to have claimed the right to build bridges, railways, roads and schools in Abyssinia, and to influeusce its civilisation are pictures showing the present state of some of these in Abyssinia. The Ethiopian Empire has but one 500-mile railroad (the left picture shows a typical train) connecting the capital Addis ababa with Djibouti in French Somaliland. The Empire has 50 miles of macadamised streels and 1000 miles of miscellaneous roads such as that shown in the centre picture.
