Auckland Endorsement of Christchurch Plan By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, June 25. The resolution of the recent cofiference at Christchurch advocating major public works for unemployment relief and an increase in winter sustenance rates, was endorsed in nearly all particulars by a conference of Auckland local bodies and other interests. The following motion was carried: “That this conference reaffirms the desirability of major schemes absorbing large numbers of unemployed being put in hand by the Public Works Department at standard rates of pay; that representatives of the local bodies present pledge themselves to do all in 'their power to assist in the carrying out of such schemes, and that at least 20 per cent, should be added to the rates of those on sustenance during the winter months.” The' Christchurch suggestion that the wage’s tax should lie increased from 10(1. to 1/- to meet the extra cost was not endorsed.
