FIRST PERFORMANCE
Amalgamated Arts Society In its first performance at the Pioneer Club last evening, the newlyformed Amalgamated Arts Society presented a programme of decided promise to an appreciative audience. An apology was received from Mr. T. O. A. Hislop, patron of the society, who was unable to be present. Mr. J. Hollis, president, spoke for a few moments before introducing Mr. R. A. Wright, M.P., a vicepresident, who spoke encouragingly of the amateur theatrical work done by young people. “It merits the un- > reserved support,” he said, “of the older generation.” The committee of the society is as follows: Chairman, Miss Evelyn Goldsmith; treasurer, Mr. Brian McCawe; honorary secretary; Miss Eileen Fearn; arr’ Mrs. Stanley Fearn, Miss Pat Buckie, Mr. Jack Bromley, and Mr. Ken McGill. The performers for the evening, who did excellent work under the direction of Miss Graeme Carswell, were Ken Magill, Margaret Eastwood, Bruce Drummond, Patricia McLean, Jack Hollis, Evelyn Goldsmith, Eileen Fearn, Brian McCawe and Jack Bromley. The programme included two plays, violin solos, and an interesting sketch on miming the producer. Among the audience were Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Fearn, Master Detmar Fearn, Mr. and Mrs. J. I. Goldsmith, Mr. and Mrs. J. Carr, Miss Valerie Carr, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Didsbury, Madame Bligh,' Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Glen, Mr. and Mrs. J. Finn, Mrs. G. Mitchell, Mrs. Ross, Mr. Burnett Ross. Mrs. Clark, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. H. Hutchinson, Miss Page, Miss Eleanor Page, Mrs. J. G. McLean, Miss. McLean, Mrs. Brooker, Miss T. Mclntyre, Mr. Fred Morgan, Miss Thompson, Mr. Roy Woodcock.’Miss K. Kirby, Miss Jean Coker, Mrs. Freda Shaw, the Misses Shaw (2), Mr. B. Goldbloom, Mrs. E. Burt, Mr. J. Torbit, Miss Edwina Vare.
