ITALIAN CLUB

A very pleasant evening was spent by members of the Italian Cultural Society at its fortnightly meeting in the Lyceum Club rooms ou Thursday last. The first hour was, as usual, devoted to the study of the Italian language, the instruction class being conducted by the patron, Cav. Dolt. Formichella, aud. ■ the conversation class by Signor Carraro. Theu came a very enjoyable musical programme arranged by Signor V. A.

Truda. Miss Marjorie Bennie sang “Vola Serenata” (Tosti), aud for an encore "Ciribiribin," with chorus by the members. The following performers from Mr. A. P. Truda’s studio were warmly applauded: Mr. Cyril Ainsworth, flute soli, "Il Carnevale di Venezia” (Briccialdi) and “Graceful Dance” (Le Moune) ; Miss Kathleen Montaperto, soprano solo, “Regnava nel Silenzio” from "Lucia di Lammermoor,” with flute obbligato by Mr. Ainsworth; responding to an encore, Miss Montaperto sang “Un Bel Di” from “Madame Butterfly” (Puccini) ; Mr. Arthur Staunton, baritone soli, "Vittoria” (Carissimi) and "Dagit immortali vertici” from “Attila” by Verdi. Mrs. G. P. Aldridge was an efficient and sympathetic accompanist and added uot a little to the excellence of the programme. The singing of "Giovinezza” concluded the programme, and supper was served. Professor E. J. Boyd-Wilson presided.
