In the course of his comment on the statement made by members of the council of the Wellington inter-church committees, which have been assisting for the past, three years in the distribution of relief in the various districts of the metropolitan area, the Mayor, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, said, in respect to the signatories’ etatenieut, that “the sharpness of the emergency has to some extent passed,” that in a limited .sense that might be so, in the sense that now the amalgamation of bodies had taken place, the inter-church committee could, where they individually so desired, be relieved of the work by others more ready to carry on. He said yesterday that the word “more” in the last sentence should have been “now.”
