DAILY MILK RATION

School Children Supplied

Under-nourished school children in Wellington are now being supplied with half a pint of fresh milk (pasteurised) on school days, thanks to the efforts of tho Smith Family, who initiated this work three years ago. The results have been such that it was not possible even to consider a discontinuance of the custom; Indeed, it has been so generally approved that the Smith Family have left no stone unturned in urging the Government to take measures to have all primary school children supplied with a milk ration daily. The Smith Family would have liked to do that for every child in the Wellington schools, but the amount of money available for the purpose was insufficient. However, they have sufficient in hand to make a start this winter, and hope to be able to continue the supply for the next three or four months at all events. The milk, as heretofore, is being supplied at a reasonable price by the municipal milk station, which also undertakes its delivery to the schools. This year the free kindergartens, seven in number, are being supplied also.
