Championship Meeting PLAY AT MASTERTON Eliminating Rounds Dominion Special Service. Masterton, June 2. The Masterton Golf Club’s annual tournament, for which excellent entries were received, was commenced in brilliant weather on tbc Lansdowne links yesterday morning. The qualifying rounds for the Masterton Championship aud the Lansdowne Handicap were played, B. M. Silk (Hutt) and J. P. Hornabrook (Masterton) returning good cards of 72 each, while T. 11. Horton, the Masterton veteran, returned a card of 74 for the 18 holes. The links were in good order, aud although fairly wet in the morning, were soon dried by the sun and light wind. Following are the 1G players who qualified for the championship: J. P. Hornabrook, B. M. Silk, 72; T. H. Horton, 74; 11. S. Budd, 77; K. Jeffery, J. L. Black, A. D. S. Duncan, C. R. Boys, D. O. The following competitors qualified for the Lansdowne Handicap: A. Warren, J. C. Broad, 81; G. Horne, S2; E. Henderson, G. Ward, N. Blundell, J. Shelly, S 3; T. C. Wickens, R. Rawlinson, R. Sherratt, Dr. J. A. Cowie, 84; H. P. Hugo, J. Grace, 85; N. Moore and A. S. McGregor, 86. The tournament was advanced further to-day, when the weather, although oyercast, remained fine, with very little wind. Following are the results of to-day’s play in the championship : — First round: J. P. Hornabrook beat D. C. Collins, 2 up; A. D. S. Duncan beat H. W. Frost, 4 and 2; K. Jeffery beat A. E' Ekstedt, 3 and 2; T. H. Horton beat J. C. Feast, 4 and 2; 11. S. Budd beat IL St. Lawrence, 4 and 3; C. C. Heard beat J. L. Bladk, 2 up: D. O. White beat C. R. Boys, 5 and 4; B. M. Silk beat K. Guy, 4 and 3.

Second round: Hornabrook beat Duncan, 6 and 5.; Horton beat Jeffery. 4 and 2; Heard beat Budd, 4 and 3; Silk beat Whyte, 2 and 1. Results of matches in the Lansdowne Handicap are:—First round: A. S. Second round : Rawlinson beat McGregor, 6 and 5; Shelly beat Lachlan, 1 up; Wickens beat Horne, 4 and 3; Moore beat Blundell, 2 and 1. The teams’ match was won by J. L. Black, G. Leeder, M. Carroll and R. Rawlinson with an aggregate score of 296. The first medal competition was won by G. Leeder with 68, Dr. J. A. Cowie and O. R. Boys tieing for second place with 70. A second medal competition went to M. Carroll with 71, J. P. Hornabrook being second with 72. J. P. Hornabrook and H, S. Budd tied for the first bogey competition, each being 2 up. CLUB COMPETITIONS Mabin Cup at Miramar Perfect weather was enjoyed by local golfers over the week-end, when tournaments were conducted by the Titnhi, Manor Park, and Waiwetu clubs, while most of the other city and suburban clubs held special competitions. The Mabin Cup, a fourball competition, in which a senior and junior player partner each other on handicap oyer , two rounds of bogey play, was finalised on the Miramar links on Saturday, and resulted ill a win for J. S. Hiddleston (8) and D. A. Cody (14), who finished 7 up on the 6 first round and 8 up on the second round. Next came Dykes (9) and Freed (14), with an aggregate of 11 up; Cramond (8) and P. Thomson (12), 10 up; Greig (5) and Samson (17), 8 up; C. L. pentice (5) and Jacques (14), 7 up; Aplin (3) and E. Picot (12), 6 up; Heslop (9) and Martin (24). Rees (2) and F. Picot (12), Campbell (6) and McGregor (11), 5 up: J. R. Smith (3) and Dempster (11), 4 up. Manor Park Club The Manor Park Club held a mixed tournament over the week-end, which will be concluded to-day. The following eight players came out at the head of the qualifying list on Saturday:—T. Wagg. A. S. T. Butler. 13. Butler, D. Butler, I. V. 0. Duncan, V. Hay, J. Forbes, and Mrs. Blain. Flight competitions in groups of eight arc also being conducted. Shandon Club A medal round played on the Shandon links on Saturday afternoon was won by 11. Lulham (5), who finished 1 down. F. Allison (IS) and T. P. McCarthy (8) were 2 down. A 36-holes medal competition yesterday was won by G. W. Rees-Jones (24), with a net aggregate of 138. P. Garlick (22) came next, with 140. A. J. Shaw, open and professional champion of the Dominion, covered the course yesterday in 72. A fourball best-ball bogey competition over 36 holes will be played to-day. Hutt Club A bogey competition on the Hutt links on Saturday was won by L. A. Davies (7), with a card showing all square. 11. K. Adamson (4) was 1 down. A fourball event yesterday was won by H. K. Adamson (4) and J. N. D. Macdonald (8), with 6 up. Titahi Ladies’ Club A medal competitiop played by the Titahi ladies’ club on Saturday was won by Miss Mitchell, with 94-19-75, Miss Davis coming next with 95-19-76. A bogey competition yesterday resulted in a tie between Miss Davis and Mrs. Crombie, who both finished 3 down, Miss Davis winning on a count back. A fourball best-ball bogey event was won by Miss Hervey and Miss Cooney, who finished 2 up. Miss Hollis and Miss Sunderland were 1 up. Sunny Bay Ladies’ Club A Stableford competition played by the Sunny Bay ladies' club during the weekend was won by Miss E. Hill. A fourball best-ball competition will be played to-day.
