Levin and Co., Ltd., have received, the following cable from their London agents, dated May 31: —Frozen meat quotations are unaltered. Market quiet, but steady. The Bank of New Zealand, Produce Department, has received the following advice from its Loudon office as at close of business last week: —There is very little inquiry for wethers. The market for ewes is rather easier. The advance in prices for lambs has checked the demand, but it is anticipated that prices will now remain steady. The demand for beef is affected by low prices of chilled. Trade, generally, is slow. Wethers, light, 33d. to 43d. per lb.; heavy, 3d. to Ewes. 21(1. to 3 3-Sd. In regard to the prices realised for New Zealand lamb delivered to Smithfield market, the Meat Board supplies the following table, giving the equivalent New Zealand parity, after deducting all costs, including selling commission. The costing is based on to-day’s estimated skin values and includes exchange at current rate. The calculation is on the basis of a prime woolly lamb weighing, say. 341 b.. delivered at freezing works: —

In the above estimate the cost of killing, freezing and placing on board steamers is based on a charge of ,575 d. per lb. APPLES IN GOOD DEMAND London Market Firm By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Values of' potatoes have beeu very irregular during the week, but there has been a sharp firming, due largely to forward operators coming on the market to cover their deliveries. As an instance of the variation in values potatoes were sold at Lyttelton on the same day at a difference of 10/- a ton. Fluctuations make definite quotations difficult, but Dakotas at the moment may be quoted at £5/17/6 a ton, f.0.b., s.i.. for prompt, aud up to £6/5/- for whites. The equivalent value to farmers ou these prices is £4/10/- to £4/12/6 for Dakotas, and £4/15/- for whites. Auckland inquiry has been almost entirely absent (luring tlie firming. Sales were effected curlier in the week at higher f.o.b. s.i. values than those quoted, but tlie market is now quieter though no weaker. The Wnimarino and Kurtigi between them took 8500 sacks from Timaru and Lyttelton, and the' Gabriella is loading at 'Timaru to-day, and will also lift some potatoes at Lyttelton. An estimate of her cargo is not yet possible. There is no change in the oats market Southern A Gartons are worth 3/2 f.0.b., s.i„ and B's 3/-. Quotations for best quality Duns are 3/3 on trucks, and Algerians 2/2 to 2/4. Chaff is slow of sale, the mild weather no doubt biting an influence in the slack demand. Values on trucks are £3/o/- to £3/(/6 a ton. There is no change in the market y>r partridge peas, which are quoted at 5/9 to 6/- u bushel on trucks, but so far there is no demand for export. Onions are still making high figures, from £l2 In £l2/10/- a ton. on ti'ucks, but the quality is now uncertain, and the demand at: the high pi’iee is not very keen. Fowl wheat and all classes of small seeds .’ire unaltered, and stocks are firmly held.
