Butter Market Steadier CHEESE VERY QUIET After a further rise in prices in the early part of last week the London butter market became quieter, but it was reported from London on Friday that the market was steadier and showed signs of improving. New Zealand salted closed at 81/- to 82/- and Danish at OS/- for spot, while retail prices remained unchanged. Deliveries of New Zealand butter last week totalled 1787 tons, compared with 1800 tons for the previous week and 1945 tons a week ago. Australian deliveries amounted to 2007 tons, against 1408 tons a year ago. The Imperial Economic Committee’s estimated stocks of all butters in store is now 920,337 boxes, against 826,161 boxes a fortnight ago and 1,173,950 boxes a year ago. New Zealand butter in store now totals 7611 tons, including 457 tons ex Port Bowen, compared with 78S0 boxes for the previous week and 11,417 tons a year ago. Australian stored butter amounts to 7454 tons, against 8300 tone for the previous week and 7904 tons a year ago. London advices to the Dairy Board state that 3300 casks of butter were shipped from the Continent to New York last week. The board has also received the following advice from its agents in Canada: —Butter: New York, 25 cents a lb.; Montreal, 21-J cents. The cheese market continues very quiet with prices again a shade easier. Deliveries of New Zealand cheese last week, totalled 22,020 crates, against 20,294 crates a year ago, wh'ile the quantity in store was 178,326 crates, including 5600 crates ex Port Bowen, against 142,195 crates a year ago. Canadian deliveries totalled 6231 boxes, against 6478 boxes a year ago, and the quantity in store was 53,861 boxes, against 78,773 boxes a year ago. The New Zealand _ Dairy Board has fixed the minimum prices for f.o.b. and c.i.f. sales on the basis of: Butter, lOd.; cheese, sd. Minimum prices are subject to agent's selling commission of 1$ per cent. These prices are equivalent to 81/7 c.i.f.e. for butter, and 44/- c.i.f.c. for cheese.
