SERIOUS CLAIM
Offer to Compromise Alleged Bv Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, April 12. When a young man, Colin Raymond Wills, appeared for sentence on a charge of carnally knowing a girl under 16 years of age, counsel said it had been represented to him that the girl s father had sent for accused’s brother and made a proposal that the case be compromised for a sum of money. The Crown prosecutor, however, stated that the police had investigated this, and it was claimed by the girl’s father that the whole suggestion came from the other side. The police took the attitude of believing the father. Mr. Justice Kennedy remanded the prisoner for sentence that he might consider this fresh matter brought forward.
