A BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Viscount Galway is the eighth holder of the title, which was created in 1727, his full name being George Vere Arundell Monckton-Arundell. He is also Baron Killard (1727), and Baron Monckton (18S7). He was born ou March 24, 1882, and was educated at Eton and at Christ Church, Oxford. He became associated with the Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry at the beginning of the century, and joined Life Guards in 1904. He was adjutant of that regiment from 1908 to 1911, iu which latter year he was promoted to be captain. On the outbreak of the Great War he was made captain and adjutant of the Fourth Cavalry Brigade, and in the latter year became D.A.A. and Q.M.G. to the Second Cavalry Division. In 1917 he was awarded the D. 5.0.. and two years later the 0.8. E. In 1919 he was promoted to be lieutenant-colonel. He commanded the Life Guards from 1925 to 1929, retiring from the service that year. He has also beefi the colonel commandant of the Honourable Artillery Company since 1933.

Lady Galway before her marriage was the Hon. Lucia White, younger daughter of Baron Annaly.
