GENERAL EVA BOOTH
New Zealand Itinerary BIG CONFERENCE IN WELLINGTON Not Visiting South Island A great deal more lias been made of General Evangeline Booth's state of health by the press of Australia than the facts warrant. It was given out that, owing to knocking up on account of the strain imposed by the tour, s?he had to break away aud rest for a while. As a matter of fact, that “rest” was arranged for before the General reached Australia at all —it was part of the scheduled itinerary. General Evangeline Booth is due to arrive in Wellington from Sydney via Auckland by train on Sunday morning, April 28, when a great welcome will be given her at the station by the Army folk and their bands. That afternoon tlie visitor will speak at the Town Halil on “The World’s Greatest Romance," a review of the birth and development of the Salvation Army. There will be another great hallelujah service in the Town Hall that evening, and on Monday evening a great musical demonstration will be given in the Town Hall, at which the visitor will speak. Tuesday and Wednesday will be devoted to a big conference, to be attended by officers from all parts of New Zealand, and on Thursday (May 2) evening, General Booth will leave again by rail for Auckland. There will be a great farewell meeting nt the Auckland Town Hall on Friday evening, May 3, and on Saturday, Muy 4, General Booth will leave for San Francisco by the Mariposa. There is a great deal of disappointment among Salvationists in the South Island, owing to General Booth being unable to visit that part of the country. This has not been the case in connection with the visits to New Zealand of the late Generals William and Bramwell Booth, or General Higgins, but in the case of General Evangeline Booth it appears that this arrangement could not be avoided. It must be remembered that she only assumed office last year, and has not yet caught up to her duties at Home and in Europe yet. But the present flying visit is the result of a promise made—and now being kept. There is no intention of putting any slight upon the good people of the South Island, but to keep schedule General Bootli must leave Auckland by the Mariposa on 'May 4—aud that puts a visit to the South Island out of consideration.
