A MOMENTOUS CONFERENCE
Britain’s peace mission has now reached a momentous stage. Her emissaries, in the persons of Sir John Simon and Mr. Anthonv Eden, have collated the views of nations upon whom the peace of Europe largely depends. These views the British representatives will place upon the'table at the Stresa Conference, and, in effect, put the question: '‘What about it?” What seems to be required, in the present state of international politics, is a very definite declaration of what Britain would do in the event of a serious European crisis. The other parties at the Stresa Conference have definite ideas on the subject. Both France and Italy are organised and prepared for war. Britain is not, and unless the others can receive a definite assurance that she is willing to fight for peace,, and make preparations accordingly, the Stresa Conference may fail.
