FIRST FOR SEVEN YEARS

Eketahuna Council’s Credit Balance Eketahuna. April 11. Commenting on the Eketahuna Borough Council’s balance-sheet, the Mayor, Mr. W. Simpson, said that the general account showed a credit of £.137/0/9, this being tbe first time for the past seven years that a credit had been shown. In view of the prevailing conditions, the council had to practise severe economy to allow permanent work to be undertaken. However, although he did not want the ratepayers to anticipate large reductions in rates, the benefit of the loan conversion would be passed on' to them. The net receipts for the year, exclusive of transfers, totalled £1567, as against £1422 last year, an increase of a little over 10 per cent. The net expenditure, exclusive of transfers, amounted to £1389 18/6, an increase of 6.1 per cent, on last year, this including an item of £577 19/10 for repairs to the municipal buildings. The general rate collection amounted to £lO2l/11/11, as compared /with £987/2/9 last year.
