Bowling Medals Presented FEILDING CLUB FUNCTION Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, April 11. zUthough marred by rain, there was a pleasant function on the Feilding Bowling Olttb's greens yesterday afternoon, when the president of the Manawatu Bowling Centre, Mr. J. A. Nash, M.P., presented the medals won in the recent veterans’ tournament to Messrs. Duncan, Rodgers, Dewe and J. Bartholomew (s.), of the Feilding club. Friendly matches were played until rain caused a cessation of play after the afternoon tea adjournment. Soccer in the Manawatu. “Owing to a general lack of senior players it was found impossible to conduct any senior matches throughout the season despite many appeals,” states the annual report of the Manawatu Football Association. ‘‘We sincerely hope' that this state of affairs will be rectified for the coming season. In all. other grades the season, was a great success in respect of the number of players, enthusiasm and standard of play. .The,past season has been disastrous as regards the association’s finances. Something must be done urgently to enable the association to carry on.” Club Bowling Title. The pairs final in the Palmerston North Bowling Club’s competitions has been won by Morris and Mochan (s.), who defeated L. Brown and Simmons (s.), 20-19. The winners had two lives and the losers one life. In the final of the singles title. E. Barry (two lives) beat G. G. Wilson (one life) by 21 points to 14. Cartage of Fruit, A witness< at the sitting of the No. 6 Licensing Authority in Palmerston North this morning stated that on an average six tons of fruit were brought to Palmerston North each night on his company’s motor lorries. The fruit was loaded at night and delivered in Palmerston North, the journey having to be made in the shortest possible time on account of the perishable nature of the goods. Takaro Bowling Cup. The Northern Bowling Club successfully defended the Takaro Cup in the fifth and final challenge match of the season by defeating a rink from the Palmerston North club yesterday. The result was: —Lee, Lynch, Wort, Rabone (s.), Northern, beat Croucher, Lawson, .Boon. Paton (s.), Palmerston North, 21-17. Woodville Fire Loss. A fire loss of £3O during the year was reported by the superintendent, Mr. N. H. McNeil, at the annual meeting of the Woodville Fire Board. During the year five calls were received to fires, two of the fires being in buildings. The average attendance at fires was 90 per, cent. The present strength of the brigade was two officejs and 15 men. Woodville Hockey Club. “That the club write to the New Zealand Hockey Council asking for a clearance from the Bush Hockey Union, aud failing that permission being granted, the club continue playing in the union,” was the text of a resolution carried at the annual meeting of the Woodville Hockey Club. The following officers were elected : —Patron, Dr. P. H. Mules; president, Mr. W. A. Lyon; vice-presidents, Messrs. R. R. Johnston and R, H. Morgan; secretary, Mr. K. Strand ; club captain, Mr. K. Messrs. W. T. Penny (Palmerston North), J. B. Johnstone (Silverhope), D. Charker (Palmerston North), L. J. Watkin (Wellington) and D. Thomas (Palmerston North), 'were elected life members at the annual meeting of the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association.

Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Gibb have returned to Palmerston North from a six months’ holiday in Scotland. The Rev. J. H. Allen, of Remuera, will take over the ministry of the Feilding Methodist Church in succession to the Rev. E. O. Blamires. Six members who attended the association’s first show 50 years ago were present at the annual meeting of the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association. They were Messrs. D. Collis, Jos. Batchelar, D. B. McEwen, B. G. Gower, J. MeKelvie and G. C. Eglinton. Mr. T. R. Hodder was re-elected treasurer at the annual meeting of the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association. The following members were elected to the 12 vacancies on the general committee: —Messrs. L. B. Wall, D. Collis, R. MeKelvie, L. H. Collinson, R. O. Dalrymple, H. W, Smart, H. E. Hockey, A. Burgess, J. F. Carter, B. G. Gower. H. McEwen, and W. A. Sutherland.
