Young Man’s Offence A young mechanic who stole £9 from bis mother, appeared before Mr. J. 11. Luxford, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. A suppression of name was ordered, and a plea of guilty was entered. Prior to February accused had been living with his people in a North Island town, said Detective-Sergeant L. Revell, and had quarrelled with his mother on February 12. He had broken open a wardrobe ami, taking the money, proceeded to Wellington. Here he was admitted to hospital, and when discharged from there was arrested by Detective Ritchie. He had stated that he luul spent the money on such things as clothing and train fares. How the boy was knocked down in a motor-accident four years ago was described by his father. He had been under several doctors, and in hospital, but a cure had not yet been completely effected. People who had employed him spoke highly of his ability as a worker. The boy had no criminal tendencies and his father asked that another opportunity be given him.

“I shall leave Ihe matter entirely to you.” said Mr. Luxford. To accused lie said he would not add anything to what his father had said already. Accused was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence within 12 months if called upon.
