Variety of Offences A number of motorists appeared before Mr W. I' 1 . Stilwell in the Upper Hutt Court yesterday to face a variety of charges laid by Mr. J E Ainsworth, inspector for the ■ Main Highways Board Negligent -driving charges were preferred against Nellie McDougall, who was said to have failed to look out before passing another car, and Robert Christie, whose offence was speeding. They were lined £2 ana £1 10/- respectively. Mr A. J. Mazen garb, counsel, remarking that apart from repairs to’the car rhe accident which Christie had had cost oin? £2O William Paterson, whose excuse tor drawing out of a line, of'traffic was that he was taking a friend to catch a boat, was lined £1 for driving in a manner that might have been dangerous to the public, and tot similar offences Stanley Herbert Craig and Gavin Arthur were lined 30/ and £1 respectively Exceeding the road toad limn cost John Raymond Donovan £l, and be was fined a like amount fot having an excess of overhang. John Francis Cleghorn, who also exceeded the road load limit, was ordered co pay 15/-. and Evan Brenkley. who pleaded nor guilty to having defective brakes, was fined £l. “The fine is not letting me off at all," he told the.magistrate, “for thi. will cost me ovei £5O in insurance ’’ A charge against Raymond bluer, who was alleged ro have passed a gang of roadmen at Kaitoke at about 35 miles per hour was dismissed, the magistrate remarking that ’here vas a doubt about the case On Licensed Premises. The following were fined £2 . ach for being in the Provineia Hotel after hours —Joseph Robert Wyetli, Allan Gardner. Leo O'Reilly William John Paul, and Henry Steven Turvey
