Feilding Ewe Fair Dominion Special Service. Feilding, February 15. Vendors were very happy after the ewe fair to-day, prices appreciably exceeding expectations. A yarding of 35,000 was offered, being 10,000 less than last year. Fwes generally showed the effects of tue dry weather, particularly in the case of young ewes, the wool being harsh and dry, though crack farmers with high quality sheep had some excellent pens to offer. The bidding was lively throughout and for all ages of sheep there was practically a total clearance under the hammer. Last year’s top price for two-tootlis, 52/-, obtained by the Short Estate, was an extraordinary figure. To-day’s top price was 4U/-, obtained by two vendors. Jacob and Son and J. D. Hocking. The latter had previously frequently topped the fair. . Top price for four and six-tooth, 27/(A\ J. Short) ; top price for four-year, 25/2 (J. Northcott) ; top for five-year, 213/8 (M. A. Conway). Prices during the past few week.s have varied considerably. Oue farmer, who obtained 17/7 a fortnight ago, to-day obtained 20/- for ewes from the s’ame draft. Poultry: Hens, 1/2 to 1/10; pullets, 2/5 to 4/-; ducks, 1/-1 to 2/2; cockerels, lid. Io 2/-. Pigs: Wcaners. 3/9 to 8/-; slips, small 4/0 to 7/-, others 8/6 to 15/-; stores, 14/- to 13/6; sows, 14/- to 29/-; boars, 20/- to 26/-. Upper Hutt Sheep Fair At the Upper Hutt sheep lair on Thursday. Keen competition was maintained throughout and a good clearance was made at satisfactory prices. Stock came forward in good condition, and showed quality right through. There was a large attendance of the public, from as far north as Te Awamutu and from the Manawatu.. Competition was very keen and prices were higher lhan those rnlinj at other fairs. There was a lotal clearance. . We topped the market with both 4-tooths and 4-year-olds wllh ewes bred by Messrs. Farmers* Co-operative Report. ‘ The New Zealand Farmers’ Co-operative Distributing Company Limited report a very heavy yarding and an exceptionally good sale. Buyers were In attendance from Waikato, Taranaki, Manawatu, Marton and Wanganui districts. Taken as a whole, the ewes came forward in excellent condition, and competition was exceptionally keen on all the well-known lines that are-sold every year, and whose ages were guaranteed. The top price of the sale for 5-year ewes was secured by the Kus-sell Estate, a line of 78 realising 24/8 ami the 4-tooth ewes from the same estate 29/6. The top price of 33/- for 2-tooths was secured by Mr. A. C. Morton for an exeeptlonalty line line of 140. The buying power was well spread. Marton buyers securing the bulk of the yarding, while a fair share went to Waikato, Taranaki*and Manawatu; local graziers also secured a fair proportion. The sale as a whole must be considered most satisfactory held for years.
