NAVAL SPECTACLE

Coming Review at Spithead TOTAL OF 70 VESSELS (Received February 15, 11.40 p.m.) London, February 15. Mr. Hector Bywater, in the “Daily Telegraph,” says that the naval review at Spithead on July 16, at-the time of the King’s Jubilee celebrations, will be the most imposing spectacle of its kind for 21 years. It is likely to include nine battleships, two battle-cruisers, three aircraft carriers, 36 leaders and destroyers and many submarines and auxiliary craft, probably totalling 70 vessels. The total of officers and men is likely to exceed 24,000. If precedent is followed, the fleets will be moored in three lines, through which will steam the Royal Yacht, which, after the review, or next day, will lead the combined fleets seaward for tactical exercises. LOYAL ADDRESSES Plans For King’s Jubilee Rugby, February 14. An impressive ceremonial will be observed when on May 9 the King and Queen visit Westminster Hail to receive loyal addresses of congratulations from both Houses of Parliament on the celebration of their Silver Jubilee. Members of the House of Lords, the House of Commons, officials both Houses, his Majesty’s Judges, and members of British Parliaments overseas, who will then lie visiting London, will be present to the total number of about 2000.

The King’s speech, in reply to the addresses read by the Lord Chancellor for the House of Lords and the Speaker for the House of Commons, will be broadcast, and a complete gramophone record of the proceedings will be made. There will be no decorations in Westminster Hall, but the beautiful roof of tlie chamber, which, despite its great age, is in a splendid state of preservation, will be floodlit.
