RELIGIOUS SERVICES. "lecture on bible trutil (God Willing) T 0.0. F. HALL. ALLEN STREET, J * SUNDAY AT 7 P.M. Subject: “THE THIEF ON THE CROSS” " 'Lord, remember me when thou contest into thy Kingdom.’ And Jesus said unto bira, ‘Verily I say unto thee, this day (the Greek original is “semeron”) shalt thou be with me in Paradise.' ” Luke xxiii, 42-43. THE OBJECT OF THIS ADDRESS is to show that there is no support in the words of Jesus to the thief on the cross for the orthodox belief in heaveugoing on the day of death. (1) BECAUSE neither the thief’s petition nor the answer of Jesus referred to heaven, but to the day when Jesus will come into His Kingdom. (2) BECAUSE nil the Scriptures definitely teach ‘hat Jesus will not “Come into His Kingdom” until his personal return to the earth at which time the Lord’s prayer will be fulfilled — ‘■THY KINGDOM COME. THY WILL BE DONE IN EARTH” (2 Tim.. 4:1; Luke 19:12: Matt.. 25: 31; Dan.. 7:13-14; Matt. 6:10; Rev., 11 :15). (3) MEANTIME “the thief” and all the dead “sleep in the dust of the earth” (Dau., 12:2) and “know nothing” (Ecc., 9:5) until “the resurrection of the dead” at the second coming of Christ; (Acts 24:15; 1 Thes., 4:16; Rev., 11:18: Luke 20:3536). (4) "WHEN (and not until then) Jesus will say to the accepted, “Come ye blessed of My Father, INHERIT THE KINGDOM prepared for you from the foundation of the World” (Jlatt. 25:31-34;' Matt. 13:43: Luke 12:32 ; Jas., 2:5 ; Luke 13 :28; Dan., 7:18, 22, 27 ;~Rev„ 3:21; Rev., 20:6; Rev. 5:9-10, etc.). (5) THE GLORIOUS CONDITION to exist upon earth when the KINGDOM OF GOD is established thereon. the reason why Jesus.referred to such as —“PARADISE.” (Numb., 14:21; Psa., 67:4; Psa., 72; Isa. 2:2-4; Isa., 11 :l-10; Isa., 65:17 -22; Matt., 19:28; Luke 2:14; Acts 3:19-21 ; Acts 17:31).
