THIRD CRICKET TEST
England v. West Indies (Received February 15, 5.5 p.m.) Georgetown, February 14. The third cricket Test, England v. West Indies, commenced to-day. The teams were:— England: Wyatt, Holmes, Townsend, Hendren, Hammond, Leyland. Ames, Smith, Paine, Hollies and Iddon. West Indies: George Grant, Rolfe Grant, Headlev, Constantine, Sealey. Hylton, Martindale, Christian!, Jones, Neblett and Wfshart. Rain throughout the night flooded the outfield and held up the start until 3.45 p.m. Covered with matting, the wicket was not affected. Wyatt won the toss and the batsmen opened slowly, flattering Grant’s fast bowlers and causing the crowds to implore Wyatt to “get a move on,” but a slow bowler separated the opening pair. Smith brightened up affairs and scored 25 by pulls and long-handled drives. Wyatt received two nasty knocks ou the fingers from the fast bowlers necessitating their being X-rayed. The scores at stumps were:— ENGLAND.—First Innings. Townsend, 1.b.w., b. Rolfe Grant Id Wyatt, not out 17 Smith, c. Headley, b. Hylton 25 Paine, not out ® Extras 8 Total for two wiekets 64 Bowling Analysis.—Hylton took one wicket for 19 runs; Constantine, none for 15; Martindale, none for 4: Neblett. none for 7; Grant, one for 13. SHEFFIELD SHIELD Last Matches of Series (Received February 15, 10.55 p.m.) Sydney, February 15. The concluding matches in the Sheffield Shield series have commenced. At Brisbane New South Wales in their first innings made 233 (Fingleton 74, Chipperfield 63, Marks 56, Gilbert six for 64, Oxenham two for 46). Queensland have lost three wickets for 64 (Sides 33 not out, Levy 27 not out). At Adelaide, South Australia in their first innings made 200 (Badcock 47, Lonergan 45, Waite 35, Lee 46, Fleet-wood-Smith five for 60, Sievers two for 39). Victoria, for their first innings, have lost three wickets for 61.
