THE LAST WOLF
In ancient times wolves existed in all parts -of England. There is, however, no mention of them in that country after the reign of Henry the Seventh; It is stated on good authority that the last native wolf lived in the wooded country around Ludgyan in Cornwall. This animal lived well on the flocks of the ,loctil people, but at last, just after dusk one evening, it carried off a child. This aroused the peasantry and the wolf was killed at Rospeith. where there is still a farm of that name. In Scotland wolves lingered to a much later date, and we have the wellknown story of Sir Ewen Cameron of Lochiel killing the last in the country in 16S0. There is reason to believe, however, that some wolves existed in Sutherlandshire. and on the Findhorn River until 1743.
