SHARE ALIKE

It was wlptef-time, and a bear and a wolf were walking in a wood searching for food. At last the wolf said to the bear,' “Let’s go to the farmhouse. The farmer will not miss anything if we steal some food.” ' ' ' “Yes, but how shall we get it?” asked Bruin; “Oh, that is easy,” replied the wolf. “All. you need do is to go. in and .find the store-room and throw the food out of the window. I will stay outside to Warn you if anybody comes.” . Bruin 'agreed, to. the lyoll’s plan.. •When they reached the farmhouse , everything was still and quiet, so Bruin had to be very careful how he climbed in at the window. At last; however, he was inside the house and-made his way without misfortune to the storeroom. He opened the door and found all kinds of provisions stacked on the shelves. He laid his hands on the first goodi thing he saw. which happened to be a nice big chicken. He threw this out of the window and it was caught by the waiting wolf. Without thinking of the bear, the wolf made a lot of noise and scampered away with the chicken. The farmer was soon awake, and he rushed down the stairs with a huge stick in his hand, but Bruin just managed to escape. As soon as he was safely outside, the bear discovered the wolf’s ’deception, and determined to get his own back. So he followed the foot-marks back to the wolf’s dwelling and knocked at the door. “Who’s there?” asked the wolf.

“It’s, only me,” replied Bruin. “I have found a shed outside the farm where there are many fat geese and chickens, and I want you to help me carry them home.” ; ‘

The wolf was surprised at first that Bruin had escaped, but then decided that the farmer had not been disturbed; “Just wait a minute,” he replied, “and I will come with you.”

They soon arrived at the shed, but Bruin said. “It is your turn to go in this time, and I will wait outside to warn you.” . . . . . The wolf did not think there would ■be. any danger outside the farmhouse, ’and be was thinking, too, of the fat morsels inside, so he agreed to follow Bruin’s suggestion. No sooner was.the wolf inside the shed, however, when •out came the farmer. This time if was ■Bruin’s turn to,escape, and-he scampered off as fast as he could, leaving the wolf to receive his punishment at the hands of the farmer. THE ROUGH RIDER
