Vice-Regal. His Excellency the Governor-Gen-eral, Lord Bledisloe, and Lady Bledisloe, returned to Wellington last night after paying farewell visits to Wanganui and Palmerston North. Sir Archibald and Lady Edmundstone, who are touring in New Zealand, left Wellington last evening for the South Island. Sir Hugh R. Denison, chairman of Associated Newspapers, Ltd., Sydney, and Lady Denison were passengers by the Rangltiki which arrived at Wellington yesterday from London. They have been absent from Australia on holiday for nearly a year and will spend six weeks in New Zealand before returning to 'Sydney. Sir Holburt Waring, who has been president of the Royal College of Surgeons of England since 1932, and is a vice-chairman of the Grand Council of the British Empire Cancer Campaign, arrived on a visit to New Zealand by the Rangitiki yesterday morning on his way to Australia to officiate at the opening of the new Australian Royal College of Surgeons in Melbourne early in March. lie left for Auckland yesterday, and will return to Wellington later in the 'week.

Major C. F. Cochrane, formerly of the Indian Army, and a cousin of Earl Dundonald, arrived in New Zealand by the Rangitiki yesterday morning for a holiday visit. He hopes to spend part of his time in fishing in the North Island, as this is one of his favourite pastimes.

Lieutenant-Colonel I. T. Standish has returned to Wellington from the South Island. Sub-Lieutenant D. R. N. Murdoch, R.N., who will join H.M.S. Diomede at ■Wellington, arrived from England yesterday morning by the Rangitiki.

Major TV. 11. S. Alston arrived in Wellington yesterday by the Rangitiki on a holiday visit to New Zealand Dr. T. G. Gray, Director-General of Mental Hospitals, has returned to Wellington from the south. Mr. P. J. O’Regan left Wellington last evening for the north. Major R. Hannah left Wellington last evening for the north. Mr. E. Llewellyn Williams was a passenger for Christchurch last evening. Mr. E. Palliser, Wellington, was a passenger for tire south last evening. Mr. D. W. Westenra arrived at Wellington yesterday from the south. Mr. J. G. Osborne, accompanied by Mrs. Osborne, left Wellington last evening for the south.

Mr. P. R. Climie, a member ot the Unemployment Board, left last evening for Christchurch. Mr. 11. P. Bridge, American Consular Agent at Christchurch, was booked to leave Wellington last evening for the south.

Mr. Cyril Plummer, formerly solicitor to Great Western Railways, England, arrived by the Rangitiki yesterday morning on a holiday visit. Mr. Beaumont Smith, managing director in New Zealand for the J. C. Williamson Picture Corporation, has arrived at Wellington. Mr. D. Reese, Christchurch, a member of the Railways Board, was a passenger for the south from Wellington last evening. Mr. and Mrs. H. R. B. Abbey, of Scotland, who will remain in New Zealand for several weeks on a holiday visit, arrived by the Rangitiki yesterday morning. Mr. Abbey is anxious to fish at Taupo and in the Tongariro River.

Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Hyams, who intend to visit Dunedin, arrived at Wellington by the Rangitiki yesterday morning.

The Rev. F. J. Dayne, who has been in charge of the Anglican parish of Richmond and Appleby for the past thirteen years, has been appointed by the Bishop of Nelson to be vicar at Amur!, North Canterbury. His duties will commence on March 1. Mr. C. E. Ferris, formerly headmaster of Dunelm School, Christchurch, has been appointed by the Bishop of Nelson to the temporary charge of the Maori Mission station at Okoha, Pelorus Sound, where he has. taken, up his duties as lay church worker and schoolmaster for the time being.
