SHINING SILVER

To Keep It Untarnished

If silver which is being put away is carefully stored it will not be tarnished when it is required again. It should not be polished with a cleaning agent, but should be thoroughly washed in hot, soapv water with a little borax in it. Rinse well, dry thoroughly, and polish with a clean, soft chamois leather. When special lined cases are available for storing the problem is easily solved. A sheet or two of blue tissue paper should be placed on the silver and the case kept closed. Where the silver is loose each article should be wiped with a rag to which a little vaseline has been applied, then wrapped separately in dark tissue paper and tied together in bundles. A chamois leather bag is ideal for storing the bundles,, but a cotton bag provides a good alternative. It is considered that a piece of camphor in the bag helps to prevent tarnishing.
