EXPLORERS IN NORTH
Ellesmere Land Party (British Official Wireless.) Rugby, February 13. A wireless message received in London from the British Ellesmere Land Expedition, led by Dr. Noel Humphreys, conveys the first news of the party since their vessel, the Norwegian sealer Signalhorn, sailed. A message sent from’ Thule reports that everybody is well and enjoying walrus hunting. The main party is still in camp at Utah, and will treknorth this week.
Ellesmere Land, a large island ot British North America, was first sighted by William Baffin in 1616. Situated north of Devon Island, and from Greenland by Smith Sound, Kennedy Channel, and Robeson Channel, it forms the northernmost part of the Arctic archipelago of North America. It is deeply indented, especially on the west coast, while the Prince of Wales mountains are situated on the east.
