YEAR’S BRAVEST DEED
Stanhope Medal Awarded British Official Wireless. Rugby, February 13. The Stanhope Gold Medal, awarded by the Royal Humane Society for the “bravest deed of the year,” has been presented to a naval officer, Lieutenant Hugh Richardson. In the darkness of a January morning in heavy weather Richardson dived fully clothed from H.M.S. Wolfhound in an attempt to rescue a man. Having tried unsuccessfully to tow the man to a buoy, he took the buoy to. the man, and, having helped to get him into a boat which had been launched, was himself rescued, only with great difficulty some time later.
