Evelyn Laye in “Evensong.”
PEW artists have received more generous studio backing than Evelyn Laye, the star of the Gaumont-British Picture Corporation’s production, “Evensong,” and the picture is a just tribute to the resources at the command of that company. Based on both the play and the novel, "Evensong” was directed by Victor Saville. Through the whole dramatic story, too, music has its place in delightful variety, the numbers ranging from operatic excerpts to the homely songs the soldiers used to sing. Famous concert artists in the cast are Conchita Supervia and Browning Mummery.
