Increase in Killings Killings of live stock for export during the four months ended January 31 increases compared with those for the corresponding period of last season, as is shown in the following table:— 4 months to Jan. 31.
Killings of lamb at North Island works during the last four months totalled 2,798,558, an increase of 86,222, and at South Island works 1.141,049, an increase of 216,707. Wethers and ewes killed at North Island works totalled 688,111 carcases, an increase of 267,648, and at South Island works 140,121 carcases, an increase of 115,650. Beef killings were confined to North Island works. North Island works killed 263,056 pigs, an increase of 69,619. and South Island works dealt with 1.4,768, an increase of 5542, Stocks of meat in cold stores in the Dominion as at January 31 compare as
January Shipments to U.K. The New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board is advised by cable from its London office (hat the shipments from Australia and South America to the United Kingdom during January were as follow: Australia: 58,355 carcases mutton, 122,737 carcases lamb, 16,374 quarters beef‘(frozen) South America: 11,718 careases mutton 507,683 earcases lamb, 1846 quarters beef (frozen). 515.011 quarters beef (chilled). t The shipments from New Zealand to the United Kingdom for the .same period were as f0110w:—147,319 enreas'es mutton 678.993 earcases lamb. 14,276 quarters beef (frozen), 3991 quarters beef (chilled).
