Water Shortage

Sir, —After reading Mr. G. A. Hart’s report in to-day’a “Dominion,” I am surprised and dismayed to know that shower baths are still allowed to be used on our beaches in the same copious manner as if the problem of a very serious water shortage did not exist in Wellington. Surely, during a period like the present dry one, we are experiencing, we can put up with a little inconvenience, if any, and do away with the use of fresh-water showers after a swim in the sea. I am certain that if the City Council were to turn off the water suppjy for these showers there would be at a conservative estimate some hundreds of gallons of very scarce water saved daily.—l am, etc., G.M. Wellington, February 14.
