DAVIS CUP TENNIS
Qualifying Competition Abolished London, February 12. The Lawn Tennis Association announces the abolition of the Davis Cup qualifying competition, 20 nations voting for the abolition and seven against. Thus all nations will be able to challenge in the European zone, in 1936. The proposal that the Davis Cup contest be held biennially instead of annually was defeated by 19 votes to 13. OPEN TOURNAMENTS New South Wales Not In Favour Sydney, February 13. . The New South Wales Lawn Tennis Association, on the casting vote of the chairman, expressed opposition to open tournaments in which amateur and professional players should compete. A Melbourne message stiys that at the Victorian Lawn Tennis Association meeting, Mr. Norman Brooks -urged, in the interests of tenuis generally, that there should be at least one open contest in each of the' leading , countries of the world.
