Menace of Noxious Weeds

Sir.—When we are up against the great forces of Nature, then it is-that we see most clearly the futility of red tape. While we are wasting precious time debating how best to destroy them, noxious weeds are flourishing mid going to seed, every day adding thousands of pounds to the ultimate cost of their eradication.

Why will people go about with their eyes shut, wasting time and space discussing matters that in comparison with this urgent national question are not worth a second though. Time and tide wait for no man, neither do noxious weeds. Future generations, and tiie present one also, will bless those in high authority who have the courage and vision to (in urgent matters such as this) waive red tape ami act quickly and effectively. It is too late in the season now to prevent a large part of those weeds which have not previously been checked from seeding. But by immediate action much could be done in that direction, ami plans laid for a decisive campaign against them early next spring. The newspapers of this country would earn the everlasting gratitude ’Of the whole community if they were to take up this matter. If we carry on as we arc now doing, I have no hesitation in saying noxious weeds will very soon take possession of the whole of New Zealand. I am understating rather than overstating the true position, I am sorry to say.. Every day of delay drives another nail into the coflin of the great primary industries upon which we are ail so dependent.—l am. etc. ’ G. F. MOORE. Bushy Park, February 10.
