MR. PIROW’S SPEECH
Attention at Whitehall LONDON INTERPRETATION London, February 6. The South 'African Minister of Defence, Mr. Pirow’s, speech is receiving keen attention at Whitehall, where it is asserted that it is in no way related to Sir Maurice Hankey’s recent visit. The authorities are at pains to suggest that the speech is altogether consistent with Imperial defence obligations. The tendency here is to regard the speech as directed towards native policy and in no way reacting on Empire defence discussions during the Jubilee Empire Conference. (Nets on Pago 9.)
