Two of the largest fish caught in South Canterbury for a long time were landed lust week from the Oplhi River, AVhile fishing near Pleasant Point, Air. R. Aloore landed a trout which weighed 101 b. 12oz. Air. R. Irwin caught an 111 b. fish in the lower reaches of the river near Twentyman’s homestead. The mouth of the Opihi is blocked at present, but tlie ranger intends to wait for the water to bank up before making arrangements for reopening the bar. The river itself is in excellent order for fishing (states the “Christchurch Times”).
