FLYING RATES

Aero Clubs’ Revised Scale v DECISION RESERVED Further evidence on behalf of the aero clubs seeking “automatic” airtaxi licenses was heard by the Trans-’ port Co-ordination Board yesterday, when Mr. S. E. Nielson, representing the applicants, presented a revised scale of minimum charges. These were: One-passenger machine, £3 per IQO miles; two-passenger machine, £3/10/- per 100 miles; three or four-passenger machines, £3/15/- per 100 miles. For the Tainui, the Melbourne Centenary Air Race Committee’s machine, £6 per hour. “I am assured by the other operators that these were reasonable, and I think they will be acceptable to the aero clubs,” said Air. Nielson. Answering the chairman, Sir Stephen Allen, ho said that the fees charged would be for two-way journeys. Air. J. P. AVard, opposing the rates on behalf of New Zealand Airways Ltd.: These prices are up 50 per cent. Air. Nielson: No, that is not correct. They are up 2/-. The average speed of a single-passenger machine was 75 m.p.h., and the previous quotations had been made on a basis of flying hours, instead of distance. “I am assured by the other operators that these rates are reasonable, and I think they will be acceptable to the aero clubs,” said Mr. Nielson. - In reply to the chairman, Air. Nielson said that the fees charged would be for two-way joprneys, irrespective of whether the passenger flew both ways or not. After hearing further evidence as to running costs and accounting matters, the board reserved its decision on the question of fares.
