FRANCE REMEMBERS
Auckland Citizens Have Honours Conferred HOSPITALITY .TO SAILORS By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, February 6. By decree dated December 3, the President of the French Republic, Al. Lebrun, lias been pleased to confer the following honours upon residents of Auckland: — Cross of Knight of the Legion of Honour: Mr. G. AV. Hutchison, C.M.G., Mayor of Auckland; Hon. John Alexander, C.M.G., M.L.C., president of the Auckland branch of the Navy League; Rev. 11. K. Vickery, chaplain of the Missions to Seamen, Auckland. Officier d’Academic: Mrs. Al. Al. Ifwersen, president of the-Mercantile Auxiliary Club.
The Cross of Knight of the Legion of Honour is the highest French honour. Awards have been made as token of appreciation of the very cordial welcome which the city of Auckland and the institutions mentioned have never failed to extend to various French warships calling at this port.
