Continent Buys Keenly

The following private, advices were received by cable in Wellington yesterday. 'The Bank of New Zealand, produce department: The sales have closed firm for all kinds of wool. There is an active demand by Home and foreign buyers, Current quotations: Per lb. d. d.

Bank of New South. Wales: London wool sales firm close. Prices are unchanged. Competition maintained. Levin and Co., Ltd.: The auctions closed here to-day firm, buyers operating freely. Competition well maintained throughout; keen buying.from the Continent, particularly Russia. Total, 112,000 bales sold, 78,000 bales carried forward, which includes 69,000 bales not ■offered. New Zealand carried forward 56,000 bales. Compared with the opening rates, we quote:—Greasy merino, no change; fine halfbreds, 50/56’s, _no change; extra fine crossbreds, 48/50’s, id. per lb. higher; fine crossbreds, 46/48's, Id. per lb. higher; medium crossbreds, 44/46's, id. per lb. higher; coarse crossbreds, 40/44’s, id. per lb. higher; low crossbreds, 36/40’s, Id: per lb, higher ; scoured merinos, par to 5 per cent, higher; scoured crossbreds, 5 per cent, higher; slipe wool, generally, unchanged. Dalgety and Co., Ltd. —Sales closed with strong tone, good demand from the Home trade and Continent, including Germany, Russia competing freely for greasy super merino, scoured super merino and greasy good crossbred. As compared with closing rates of last series, greasy merino, good to super, }d. higher. Greasy merino, average and inferior, unchanged. Few New Zealand descriptions offered. Scoureel good to super merino, id. to Id. higher. Scoured average and inferior merino, par to id. higher. Greasy halfbreds, offerings practically nil, nominally unchanged. Murray, Roberts and Co., Ltd.: — »Sal«s have closed with a good tone; competition keen and general. Yorkshire buyers operating moderately and Continental buyers freely. Compared with last London sale’s closing rates: Greasy merino,, spinner’s style, advanced 5-7} per cent. Wool suitable for the Continent, advanced 5 per cent. YVool suitable for Yorkshire market shows no change. Lambs, merino, greasy, advanced 5 per cent. Scoured merino, best market shows no change. Scoured merino, other descriptions, par to 5 per cent, decline. Crossbred, greasy comeback, advanced 5 per cent. Crossbred, greasy, medium to fine, best descriptions, advanced 5-7} per cent. Other descriptions, par to 5 per cent, advance. Crossbred, scoured, market irregular, and shows no change. Slipe, crossbred, market shows no change. Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., and Abraham and Williams, Ltd.:—The wool sales closed with an average attendance of buyers. Prices were well maintained and the market could be quoted as unchanged. Continental aud Bradford buyers were the chief operators, American ■buyers not being in the market. A total of 160,000 bales was offered for the series, of which 119,000 were sold. They quote: Greasy merino, 60/64’s, yielding 48 per cent,, 9}d.; halfbred, 50/56's, yielding 68 per cent., 9d.; three-quarter-bred, 48/ 50’s, yielding 74 per cent., 7}d.; crossbred, 40/44’s, yielding 76 per cent., 5Jd.; crossbred lambs, 46/50's, yielding 74 per cent., Sd.

New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited : —London wool sales: The first serie- closed firmly to-day, prices being unchanged as compared with opening rates, except for superor .scoured merino, which is Jd. per lb. more. German and Russian competition was fairly active. Quotations for good average New Zealand wool, greasy fleece: —
