Te Aro Baths

Sir, —Mr. Andrew Fletcher and the deputation which waited on the Wellington parks and reserves committee are to be congratulated on their endeavours to secure a long-needed clean-up of Te Are baths.

In answer to the deputation I see the committee has brought up the question of cost. This obviously will be a substantial factor where extensive alterations are involved, but at the same time there are many improvements which could be effected at comparatively small cost. The chief of these is the provision of matting along the sidewalks. It is positively dangerous at the present time to walk along the wet boards, and each day one can witness nasty falls which sooner or later will result in a broken limb. . Further, the conveniences are in a disgusting condition, and are, I am sure, seldom used. One antiquated, badly scratched and discoloured ed in the most inconvenient part*'of the baths, is provided to satisfy the vanity of many. A mirror could be supplied in every cubicle at a very low cost. Finally, at the south end only one springboard is provided. The fittings of the second board are there, but to my knowledge have not been used for several years.—l am, etc., ANNUAL TICKET. Wellington, February 5.
