ATTEMPT ON RECORDS
Eddie Tolan at Sydney 100 YARDS EMPIRE TITLE (Received February 7, 1.46 a.m.) Sydney, February 6. At the Sydney Sports Ground tonight professional athletic champions were in action. The British Empire Championship 100 yards was won by W. McFarlane, British champion, with Austin Robertson, Australian champion, second. Time, 104 seconds. ■ An attempt to lower the SO yards world record was made by E. Tolan, the American Olympic champion, whose time was 8 2-16 seconds, whereas the world record stands at 7-J seconds, and the Australian record at 7 4-5 seconds. In an attempt upon the 100 metres record Tolan took 10 11-16 seconds. The world amateur record is 10 3-10 seconds, and the Australian one 10 4-5 seconds, but there is no professional record. LEAVING FOR DOMINION \ (Received February 6, 9.50 p.m.) Sydney, February 6. Members of the British amateur athletic team were entertained to-day by the executives of the New South Wales Sports Club, the Olympic Federation and the Empire Games Association on the eve of their departure for New Zealand to-morrow.
