LITVINOFF’S FEARS
Alliance With France Desired EFFECTS OF AGREEMENT By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. (Received February 6, 12.14‘a.m.) London, February 5. The “Daily Telegraph's" diplomatic correspondeiLt says that M. Litvinoff, Russian Foreign Minister, is hankering after a Franco-Russian alliance as he fears that France, reassured by the more precise guarantees of security, will become less interested in Russia. M. Litvinoff does not want to be given the cold shoulder. M. Laval, realising the position, called on the Russian Ambassador immediately after his return to Paris. A Berlin message states that the Foreign Office was the centre of great activity all day. The fact that Sir Eric Phipps. British Ambassador, informed Herr Hitler of the contents of the London communique before it was issued' created a good impression.
