TO-DAY’S NATURE NOTE

Some Insect Facts While talking to a friend a short time ago, I was told some very interesting facts about insects. Many people imagine, he said, that a little fly is only small because it is young, and in time will grow into a blue-bottle. This idea is wrong, for once an insect has reached a winged state it will grow no more. All the growing -(and most of the eating) is done in its embryonic state of life; and there are many insects, such as tlie silkworm-moth, which do not eat at all from the time they assume the chrysalis state to the time they die. — J.D. (Wellington).

The Nature Note prize for lust week iawnrded to Mr. M. F. O’Connor. 20 Bunny Street, Masterton, for his contribution, •‘Flyaway Robbery,” published in the issue o£ Monday.
