CELEBRATION AT SEA
Australia’s National Day Honoured An impressive Ceremony while at. sea was held on board the London liner Tainui, which arrived in Wellington yesterday. It was designed to carry out the observance of the “Dominions’ National Days Historical Celebrations Movement,” and was in commemoration of Australia Day, January 26. The chair was taken by Captain W. Dawson, and the ceremony was opened with the singing of the National Anthem. After a few introductory remarks by Captain Dawson on the objects of the movement the Australian National Anthem, “Advance, Australia Fair,” was sung. This was followed by an addjess given by the Rev. L. Broadbent, one of the passengers, on “The Discovery and Founding of Australia.” Another passenger, Mrs. S. H. Chisholm, concluded the ceremony with the solo “Land of Hope and Glory.” It lias been decided to* observe the national days of New Zealand, Canada, South Africa and Australia, at sea in passenger vessels when possible.
