Heavy Morning Downpour STILL INSUFFICIENT By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, February 5. Heavy rain fell in Auckland for over three hours from 3.30 o’clock this morning. The fall totalled 93 points, and though it was exceedingly welcome it is said by farmers and market gardeners to be insufficient to do a great deal of good. 'lt was the first real rainfall in Auckland since January 2 and 3, when two inches was recorded. The total fall in December was 2.3 S Inches and in January 2.72 inches, both below the average. Since the rain fell the temperature has fallen and the air is much fresher. PASTURES RELIEVED Fall in Waikato By Telegraph—Press Association. Hamilton, February 5. As a result of intermittent rain throughout last night the pastures in the Waikato district have been relieved, but considerably more rain is imperative to bring the pastures back from the parched state of the past several months. i Light rain fell on Saturday, and last night’s fall will assist in certain areas. The rain was insufficient, however, to stop the swamp fires, which still continue to do much damage to the pasture land in the district. HEAT. WAVE AT GORE By Telegraph—Press Association. Gore, February 5. The Gore district has experienced an. other heat wave within the past few days, the temperature yesterday reaching 91 degrees. Saturday’s figure was 90 degrees, and 89 degrees was recorded on Sunday. To-day conditions are slightly easier.
