CUSTOMS OFFICERS SEIZE OPIUM
Van Chased at Melbourne PURSUERS FIRE SHOTS AT TIRES By Telegraph.—Press Assn- —Copyright (Received February 4, 9.45 p.m.) Melbourne, February 3. Customs officers early this morning effected a big opium seizure. They saw three men acting suspiciously in a flat J bottomed boat near an overseas steamer berthed in the River Yarra. Later they saw them row away and transfer something to a motor van farther down the river. Customs officers in cars pursued the motor van at high speed, firing many shots at its tires. Eventually they overtook the van and arrested the trio Quite a number of tins of opium were afterwards picked up along the route of the pursuit. j
