A Note From "The Hoe” The Water Hyacinth
Those who possess a garden pool should not be without at least one / clump of water hyacinth. Although this plant is a troublesome pest in tropical countries, it conducts itself with becoming restraint in our climate. The plant is worthy of cultivation for the beauty of its foliage alone, but it is generous in its flowers, which are borne throughout the months of summer.- Of a delicate lavender shade, with a centre of darker blue and a little touch of yellow, the blooms are very pleasing. , The plant floats bn the surface of the i water by means of ingenious air-. filled stalks and fine roots move downward until they anchor themselves in the mud. Eichhornia is the botanical name of this curious aquatic, which looks particularly well . when growing on the edge of a water lily pool. It is easily cultivated.
