Wellington Market Firm

TRADING MORE ACTIVE Active trading was done yesterday in the Wellington stock and share market, a substantial turnover being recorded. Prices generally were at full late rates, the market being firm. Government loans were strongly traded, business including 4 per cent, stock, 1946, at £lO6/10/-. 1949’s at £lO7 and £lO6/15/-, and 1955’s at £lO9/5/-. The market showed a firmer tendency yeSterflay. . x- XT Banks were again fairly active, Aew Zealands selling at 50/10 and 51/- and the D mortgage shares at, 31/6._ New South Wales were 5/- up at £3l/5/- following announcement of the quarterly dividend. Unions were 1/- better at £8 19/-, sellers asking £9/2/. National of Australasia, £5 paid, again sold at £6/8/-. New Zealand Guarantee Corporations were firm on further dealings at 5/11. Wellington Trust, Loan and Investment were reported done at £5/12/-. National Insurance advanced to 23/-, sellers 24/-. Shipping shares were firm, buyers offering 36/9 for Huddart-Parker ordinaries and 27/6 for the preference. Union Steam preference firmed to 27/1, sellers holding for 28/-. Pukemiro Collieries were traded at 26/6 and 26/7. Westport Coals were wanted at 21/9, sellers asking 22/6. Breweries were a firm market. New Zealands were quoted at 51/-, sellers 52/3. Tooths were 3d. up at 50/6, sellers 51/3. Little change was seen in miscellaneous industrial and 'trading issues, which were mostly firm. There was a slightly improved demand for mining shares.
