BISHOP W. C. SADLIER

Service of Remembrance By Telegraph.—Press Association. Nelson, February 4. A largely-attended service of remembrance for the'* late Bishop W. U. Sadlier was held in Nelson Cathedral yesterday morning. The preacher was the Bishop of Nelson, who paid a tribute to his predecessor’s 22 years of service in the Nelson diocese and in New Zealand. Dr. Sadlier was a loving father in God to all and a friend of all denominations, said the bishop. In addition to deep spirituality, he had remarkable business and legal knowledge. His work in the diocese was monumental. There was sympathy for the bereaved family, but no tears of sorrow but songs of thankfulness for the life that had been given to them, and they honoured him with affectionate remembrance. Special reference was also made iu churches of other denominations. SERMON ON BEACH By Telegraph.—Press Association Nelson, February 4. The Bishop of Nelson preached in the open air on the sands at Tahuna yesterday afternoon, when there were hundreds of bathers. The object was partly to remind listeners of the conversion of the Anniversary Day celebrations into an open-air service on the waterfront in the early days of the settlement, and also to take the message of Christ to those on the beach.
