SCENERY PRAISED
“Different From Anything on Continent” Praise for the scenery between Blenheim and Christchurch as viewed from the air was given by Mr. E. WickhamJones. of London, who made a flight from Wellington to Christchurch on ■Saturday. “It is quite different from anything I have ever seen on the Continent,” he said yesterday.
He made the journey in a Moth piloted by Mr. G. C. Lewis, who had learned to fly with the Canterbury Aero Club, and set out on the flight from Rongotai on Saturday morning, but’after getting beyond Terawhiti the pilot found conditions too bad to go further, and returned. In the afternoon they left Rongotai at 2.45 p.m., and after landing at Blenheim continued on to Christchurch. Bad weather was encountered on the second stage of the journey, with bumpy conditions and fog, which forced the pilot to fly low along the seashore from Kaikoura. The fog was se low that it was impossible to see the tops of the cliffs on several occasions. said Mr. Wickham-Jones, who added that this had been the first flight between Blenheim and Christchurch since the fatality a fortnight ago. The trip occupied three hours.
