OBITUARY

■ Mr. Jacob Isaacs Cabled news was received in Wellington on Saturday evening of the death in London ou Friday of Mr. Jacob Isaacs in his ninety-fifth year The late Mr. Isaacs was one of Dunedin’s prominent pioneers, having arrived there from Melbourne in the early ’7o’s. He became a partner in the firm of Haymanson, Low and Company, boot manufacturers and importers, and on retiring from that business he became a partner of the late Mr. Bendix Hallenstein, of Dunedin, when was established the New Zealand Clothing Factory, many branches of which still exist throughout New Zealand. He remained an active partner in that company until 1890, when he retired. After travelling for a few years, he settled in London, where he enjoyed all his faculties until the day of his death. The late Mr. Isaacs married a daughter of Mr. Moritz Michaelis, of Michaelis, Hallenstein and Co., Ltd., of Melbourne, and leaves one son (resident in London), two daughters, several grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Mr. Philip Isaacs, formerly manager for Messrs D. Benjamin and Co., in Wellington, and now resident in Auckland, is a nephew of the deceased, and Mr. M. M. Heinemann, of Wellington, is a great-nepheW. Mr. J. H. J. Greenwood The death occurred early on Saturday morning of Mr. Joseph Henry James Greenwood, who was for many years connected with the Public Service. The late Mr. Greenwood was born in Adelaide, Australia, in 1872, and came to New Zealand at an early age. He was landed with other passengers in surf boats at Kaikoura, and spent the early part of his life farming in Marlborough. After his marriage he entered the Public Service al the General Post Office, Wellington, where his splendid record extended over some 2-1 years, He leaves a widow, a daughter, Miss M. R. Greenwood, and two sons. Messrs. M. J. and R. D. Greenwood. Mrs. C. E. Peek The death occurred at the Glenwood Private Hospital, Masterton, yesterday morning, of Joan Lilian Peek, wife of Charles Edward Peek, of Ruatahuna The late Mrs. Peek, who was 30 years of age, was the eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs. C. J. Polson, of Bannister Street, Masterton. She recently underwent an operation from which she failed to recover. Besides her husband and parents the late Mrs. Peek is survived by a small daughter and two sisters, Misses Freda and Stella Polson.
